Part of my roof was damage and the company only wants to fix part of my roof. I think the insurance company should pay for a new roof for the whole house.
Okay, here is the skinny on roof claims. Many people have pondered this very issue. The insurance policy states that the insurance company is only responsible for the part that was damaged. This does not include matching.
Typically what insurance companies do are based on the claim. Here are a couple examples, however we must note that it is up to your insurance company and their procedures to determine how a claim will be paid.
- Just a few shingles damaged or blown off – Company will cover replacing those missing shingles.
- Several shingles damaged or blown off one side / slope of the roof – Company will cover a new roof for that one side / slope.
- Shingles damaged or blown off on a majority of home / majority of the slopes – Company will cover a new roof for the entire home.
Your deductible will apply. Please read your policy carefully or ask your agent to explain, because several companies have a different deductible for wind & hail damage.
Generally companies will be understanding if you can see multiple sides at the same time and the shingles cannot be matched. However if the damage is minimal or you can’t see another slope at the same time making the difference very noticeable, they will only cover the damaged side.
The same would be true for the siding on your home. Only the damaged pieces are owed, but the insurance companies generally allow enough to replace the entire side of the house that was damaged.
