Spring Floods right around the corner

FloodAwareness

After a cold winter, most of us are eagerly awaiting spring. In addition to warmer weather, however, spring can also bring heavy rains that swell rivers, streams and ditches and cause thousands of dollars worth of damage to individual properties. Because the risk for flooding will increase in the next few months, we here at Vaughn Insurance feel now is a good time for property owners to acquaint themselves with flood insurance.

Standard homeowners insurance doesn't cover flooding, but there is a way for homeowners to protect themselves from financial disaster caused by flooding. The United States government administers the National Flood Insurance Program, which makes flood insurance available to homeowners, renters and business owners if their community participates in the NFIP. According to the NFIP website, Floodsmart.gov, participating communities agree to adopt and enforce ordinances that meet or exceed FEMA requirements to reduce the risk of flooding. In the coming weeks we will provide more information on who can get flood insurance, how the government program works and how you can protect yourself from financial loss due to flooding.

Vaughn Insurance is authorized to provide this insurance to homeowners in the area. To find out your flood risk and get a premium estimate, contact an agent at Vaughn Insurance by stopping by our office at 315 N. Main Street in downtown Henderson, calling us at 270.827.3505 or visiting our website, http://www.govaughn.com/.
